Report To:

Purpose:
To provide technical support and help maintain the organization’s IT infrastructure. The IT Intern will work closely with the IT team to troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues. The intern will also support the network, server, and security systems. This role is perfect for a recent graduate or junior IT professional wanting to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic and professional environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with the setup, configuration, and maintenance of desktop computers, laptops, and networked devices.
- Provide first-line support for hardware, software, and connectivity issues reported by staff.
- Help monitor and maintain DNS and DHCP configurations.
- Assist in implementing and monitoring backup systems to ensure data security and recovery readiness.
- Support basic network troubleshooting for LAN and WAN connectivity issues.
- Perform routine maintenance on systems and assist in installing updates or patches.
- Document IT procedures and solutions for common issues.
- Escalate more complex technical problems to senior IT staff as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and data protection practices at all times.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Basic proficiency in Active Directory for managing users and groups
- Understanding of DNS and DHCP services and their roles in network environments
- Familiarity with backup strategies, tools, and restoration processes
- Basic knowledge of LAN/WAN infrastructure and common troubleshooting techniques
- Foundational understanding of IT systems, networks, and security protocols
- Familiarity with Windows OS (desktop & server) environments
- Awareness of cybersecurity best practices
- Basic knowledge of IT service management or helpdesk operations (e.g., using ticketing systems)
- Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Ability to follow instructions and work well within a team
- Eagerness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced IT environment
Education and Qualification:
- Grade 12 Qualification or equivalent
- Related tertiary qualifications
Mandatory Requirements:
- Minimum of 6 months of related experience (internship or work-based)
- A relevant IT diploma or degree is advantageous
- Must be Vaal based.
- Must have a valid driver's licence and willing to travel
- Basic working knowledge of:
- Active Directory
- DNS (Domain Name System)
- DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol)
- Understanding of:
- Backup strategies and implementation
- LAN and WAN networking
- Firewall concepts and VPN access
- Good desktop and server troubleshooting skills
